Getting around Arkansas
Driving a car around Arkansas will enable you to appreciate the state's natural beauty, heritage and diversity. There are two scenic byways; the Great River Road and Crowley's Ridge Parkway, which penetrate agricultural lands, historical towns, woodlands and forests. The Arkansas Scenic 7 route is more dramatic, offering jaw-dropping views through the Ozark and Ouachita mountains.
Greyhound (tel: +1 214 849 8100; www.greyhound.com) operate daily bus services from more than 50 regional bus stations in Arkansas. The best served stations are Texarkana, Little Rock, El Dorado and Jonesboro. The longest interstate journey is between Texarkana and Blytheville, it takes just over eight hours and costs from $40.
In Little Rock, there is a good bus and streetcars network provided by the Rock Region Metro (tel: +1 501 375 6717; www.rrmetro.org).
The Eureka Springs & North Arkansas Railway (tel: +1 479 253 9623; www.esnarailway.com) route runs between April and October, and offers a vintage, turn-of-the-century rail experience.
Amtrak (tel: +1 800 872 7245; www.amtrak.com) operate their Texas Eagle service through the state of Arkansas. The railway line from Chicago to Los Angeles stops in Arkansas at Walnut Ridge, Little Rock, Malvern, Arkadelphia, Hope and Texarkana.
