Weather in Marrakech

Best time to visit

Close to the Atlas Mountains and the Sahara Desert, Marrakech has a subtropical semi-desert climate, meaning it stays relatively warm and dry all year round, although temperatures do fluctuate significantly between day and night. It is recommended to pack sunscreen and a sweater.

Spring (March to May) is the best time to visit Marrakech when the weather is cooler and milder. In March, the average temperature is 17°C (63°F) and it climbs steadily to 21°C (70°F) by May.

Summer (June to August) is when the city starts to heat up. July and August are the hottest months with high temperatures reaching 37°C (99°F) often during the day but dropping to 21°C (70°F) at night. Rainfall is scarce during this period too.

Autumn (September to November) has a warm start but by October, temperatures fall to a more comfortable level, averaging 21°C (70°F). September and October are also popular times to visit Marrakech. In November, the average high is around 22°C (72°F) while precipitation increases to 40mm (1.6in), making it the wettest month.

Winter (December to February) continues the trend of cooler temperatures. In December, the average temperature is 13°C (55°F).

Regardless of which month you visit, beware that temperatures swing considerably between day and night, so pack a jacket for the cooler evenings.
