To enter Ghana, a valid passport is required by all nationals referred to in the chart above. At the time of the visa application, passports must be valid for at least six (6) months on the date of departure.
Ghana allows citizens from ECOWAS member states (Benin, Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Côte d'Ivoire, The Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Togo) to enter without a visa for up to 90 days. Additionally, citizens of Barbados, Jamaica, Kenya, Lesotho, Mauritius, Namibia, Rwanda, Seychelles, Tanzania, Trinidad and Tobago, Singapore, Uganda, and Zimbabwe can enter without a visa for up to 60 days.
All other nationals not mentioned above require a visa to enter Ghana. Citizens of African Union member countries that are not ECOWAS members can obtain a 30-day visa on arrival for a fee. Travellers from other countries, including Americans, Australians, British, Canadians, and Europeans, must obtain a visa prior to arrival.
Visa application fees for Ghana vary depending on the applicant's nationality, the type of visa, and the processing location. For instance, the Ghana High Commission in the United Kingdom charges £60 for a single-entry visa and £100 for a multiple-entry visa. In contrast, the Embassy of Ghana in Washington, D.C., charges $60 for a single-entry visa and $100 for a multiple-entry visa.
Single-entry visas for Ghana are valid for three months from the date of issue, while multiple-entry visas are valid for six months.
Transit passengers do not require a visa provided they don't leave the airside transit area.
How to apply for a Ghana visa depends on your location. Options typically include applying online through the Ghana High Commission or embassy website, submitting your application by post, or visiting the nearest Ghanaian embassy or consulate in person.
Applications for visas for Ghana may take 10 to 20 working days to process. Rapid (72-hour) visa processing services are available in some countries at an additional cost.
Visitors must show proof of sufficient funds for the duration of their stay in the country.
To extend your stay, take the visa extension form and photos in person to the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) office on Independence Avenue in Accra.
