Where to stay in Brazil

Hotels

Brazil offers a wide range of accommodation options to suit all budgets and travel styles. In major cities and tourist destinations, visitors will find international hotel chains, boutique hotels and serviced apartments, often with modern facilities and high service standards. Mid-range hotels and pousadas (guesthouses) are common throughout the country and provide comfortable, locally run alternatives.

Budget travellers are well catered for with hostels, simple guesthouses and short-term rentals, particularly in popular destinations such as Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Salvador and Florianópolis. In rural areas and smaller towns, accommodation may be more basic but is often welcoming and good value.

Eco-lodges and jungle lodges are popular in regions such as the Amazon and Pantanal, offering immersive nature experiences with guided activities included. Booking in advance is recommended during peak travel periods, including Carnival, public holidays and school vacation months.

Camping

Camping is possible in Brazil but is not as widespread or well organised as in some other countries. Official campsites can be found in certain national parks, beach areas and rural regions, particularly in the south and southeast. Facilities vary widely and may be basic, so travellers should not expect amenities such as running water or electricity in all locations.

Wild camping is generally discouraged and, in some areas, may be unsafe or restricted, especially near urban centres, private land or protected environments. In national parks and conservation areas, camping is usually permitted only in designated zones and may require prior authorisation.

For those keen on outdoor stays, eco-lodges, farm stays and simple beachside cabanas often provide a more practical and secure alternative to camping, while still allowing close contact with Brazil's natural landscapes.
